Our History

PetCure Oncology was created in 2014 by the founders of Accelitech®, the largest privately-held network of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) centers in the human cancer market, in response to a growing need for this technology in veterinary cancer care.

While SRS is widely available for treating human cancers—with the intent to cure—the veterinary field has a limited supply of advanced technology and services for treating the growing number of pets with cancer. Radiation equipment is outdated, start-up costs are prohibitive, and there is a significant shortage of board-certified veterinary radiation oncologists in the U.S.

As a result, pet owners have had few options. What’s more, traditional radiation therapy can require dozens of daily visits (and anesthetic events) over a six-week period, and can cause significant side effects for pets. It can also present a serious logistical challenge for pet owners.

As SRS begins to emerge in veterinary cancer care, early reports indicate good outcomes and fewer side effects than traditional radiation therapy, and pet owners appreciate the significant reduction in daily visits to three or fewer.

But preexisting centers can treat only a small percentage of the pets diagnosed with cancer each year. To fill this growing need, the Accelitech® founders are leveraging their extensive human radiosurgery expertise to roll out a national network of veterinary SRS centers in partnership with leading veterinary specialists and specialty animal hospitals across the U.S.
